It's never legitimate

Outrageous. Unbelievable. Unacceptable.

Those are just a few of words I've heard supporters use to describe Congressman Todd Akin's attitude toward women and women's health care. (And those are just the family-friendly words!)

But unbelievably, he's not backing down. In fact, Akin's now raising hundreds of thousands of dollars from extremists who share his views.

And while some Republican leaders have denounced his comments about "legitimate rape," let's be clear: They're just uncomfortable because he shined a light on a policy that many of them have been pushing for years - blaming some women for being raped so that they can justify politicians making their health care decisions for them.

If you have any question that Todd Akin is being shunned for being inconveniently blunt rather than for the odious position he stands for, just look at the platform at the Republican convention this week - it calls for a constitutional amendment banning all abortions, without an exception in the case of rape or incest.

We can't let this extremist view get traction, and we can't let Todd Akin win.

Will you chip in $10 right now to Senator McCaskill's campaign to help keep abortion safe and legal in America?
